Birth care

I attend hospital births exclusively at Westmead Public Hospital where you would be admitted as a private patient. Low risk women also have the option of birthing at home. If hospital admission became necessary, this would be as a private patient at Westmead Hospital.

Can you actually “deliver” my baby at Westmead Hospital?

Yes! I attend births at Westmead Hospital in the full capacity of a midwife. Hospital staff are not routinely involved in your care.

  1. Hi There,
Just new to this, do you know if you can have a midwife deliver your baby in a private hospital? Such as North Shore Private? I live in Neutral Bay and would like to go down this route if possible instead of having an OB.
Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.
    Regards,
    Nadia

  2. Dear Nadia,

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I appreciate your comments.

The model of care that I offer is uniquely provided only at Westmead Hospital. I have approached private hospital providers – including Ramsay as it operates NSP – and they are unwilling to offer admitting rights to private midwives. This is disappointing, but for the meantime, I am grateful to be able to offer women private care at Westmead. This is the only hospital in Sydney that is enabling this model of care. I have had clients from all over, including the North Shore, but unfortunately, much as I would love for the model of care to be offered at a private hospital such as NSP, it is not possible at this stage.

    Kind regards,
    Melissa.

  3. Hi Melissa,
In order to have you present at the delivery stage, what is the extra charge to be admitted as a private patient to Westmead hospital?

    Really excited about this option!
    Regards,
    Stacey
