Yes, it has been a whole month since my last blog post, and many people have been asking, "What has been happening?" Well, a lot has been happening!
This past year seems to have flown - I can't believe we are already at the end of August. Late last year, I completed the Graduate Certificate in Midwifery and successfully applied to our registering Board for authority to prescribe medications. The course was full-on, at the same time as juggling a busy private practice. Earlier this year, I also completed Midwifery Practice Review in line with the requirements of being an eligible midwife. All the while, my practice has been fully-booked (both private care and shared care) and very busy. So far this month, we have welcomed two gorgeous new babies, with another on the way ... stay tuned. The births were very special and it has been a great honour to be a part of the lives of these special women and their families as they welcomed their new babies gently.
Each pregnancy and birth is a process of change. It is incredibly rewarding to watch as a woman changes throughout her pregnancy from (sometimes) fearful, anxious, with little knowledge and confidence - to empowered, informed, confident, excited and triumphant as she births her baby. Watching as pregnant bellies grow - feeling the baby as s/he grows inside ... and meeting that baby once s/he is born. It's a most incredible profession and I'm proud to be a midwife.
