New research: for a natural birth, choose a midwife

We have some exciting new research that shows (once again) that women who choose to give birth with a midwife experience fewer complications and experience a higher chance of birthing without complications.

Women choosing to be cared for by a midwife are less likely to lose their baby early, experience premature birth, need an epidural or have their baby delivered with instruments.  They are also less likely to have an episiotomy (surgical cut to the perineum and vagina).

Women birthing with a midwife were also more likely to give birth naturally.

Research shows that women who have one midwife caring for them provides significant benefits for women who have a medium or low risk pregnancy.
